Re: Request for refund in the amount of $4000.00
On Wednesday, November 6th, 2024, I reached out to you, Sean, at 647-770-9361 through text to request a quote for installing new flooring in four bedrooms located upstairs. I specifically inquired about luxury vinyl flooring and shared images of the four rooms needing the installation.
You informed me via text that the cost of vinyl flooring varies between $1.50 and $3.50 per square foot, and that the baseboards would be priced at $350. The total estimate, which includes materials, amounted to $6,300.00. This total covers baseboards, floor screws, carpet removal, furniture disassembly, and the collection of all materials from the supplier. The duration for completing the project was quoted a maximum of four days.
On Monday, November 11, 2024, I communicated via text my decision to proceed with the quote. I had some questions which you addressed through voice notes. We agreed that a quarter-round would suffice for the baseboards, resulting in a revised price of $6,200.00, which I accepted.
You indicated that you would provide flooring samples and visit my home on November 12, 2024, at 10 a.m. Subsequently, I learned that your employee, Sammy, was scheduled to collect a payment of $3,000.00 for the flooring to initiate the project. I raised my concern regarding the absence of the samples, and you assured me that I would receive a receipt for the flooring purchase; however, I have yet to receive this documentation to confirm the flooring selection pricing.
The installation began on November 13, 2024. At 4:34 p.m., I sent you a message expressing my concerns about Sammy’s assistant and my apprehension that the project might exceed the initially estimated four days. You confirmed that you would inform Sammy that the job was intended to be completed within that time frame. Additionally, I suggested that they bring hall runners to protect my hardwood floors while they worked, as I wanted to prevent any potential damage during the installation process.
On Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at 8:21 a.m., I informed you that the job remained incomplete, exceeding the initially quoted four-day timeframe. We are now on day seven, and you mentioned that the delay was due to the termination of Sammy’s assistant. I provided you with photographs of the work completed thus far, highlighting numerous significant issues, including the installation of the flooring, its quality, and the overall craftsmanship. The quarter rounds were improperly cut, with several nails visible, and they did not align with the flooring, resulting in multiple gaps at the transitions. You acknowledged that the situation appeared disorganized and agreed to discuss it with Sammy. It was more than disorganized it was a disaster.
Additionally, I communicated that I had to ask a friend to bring floor runners to protect my hardwood floors, as my previous requests were not respected. Sammy reached out to inform me that he would replace the flooring due to the subpar workmanship, but this would incur an extra cost of $1,000.00, as the new flooring is priced at $3.50 per square foot and is of higher quality. I sent $1,000.00. I expressed my concerns to you regarding Sammy's skills and my reluctance to have him install the new flooring, fearing it might be damaged also. When I was provided with the receipt for this, it said $1.50 per square foot which is a direct lie, and I feel scammed. I am extremely disappointed as we had communication throughout this whole process and your employee did not care about anything.
Let’s recap:
1. The original flooring receipt was never provided despite my repeated requests.
2. The flooring has been installed improperly, exhibiting numerous quality issues.
3. The quarter rounds have also been installed incorrectly, with several quality concerns.
4. As of November 20, we were on the seventh day of what was supposed to be a four-day project.
5. There has been a lack of respect for my home and existing flooring; I had to supply a runner to protect my hardwood, despite being told it would be provided.
6. I was initially informed that the replacement flooring would cost $3.50 per square foot, only to discover it was actually $1.50 per square foot, resulting in an additional $1,000 loss.
7. I am left with a disarray of substandard flooring, and Sammy is untraceable.
8. I have received boxes of new materials but have no one available to install them.
9. I will now need to obtain quotes to remove the mess created by your employee, which will incur further expenses.
10. There is potential damage to my subflooring due to the poor workmanship and quality issues.
11. Sammy instructed me to refrain from voicing my concerns to you, which makes me feel unsafe in sharing my experience with the owner.
12. Sammy is no longer welcome in my home, if he can even be located.
13. Your company is no longer permitted to complete the job, as you have failed to execute it correctly from the outset and attempted to deceive me for additional funds.
I request a refund of $4000.00 that was given for your services, I bought the flooring directly from the supplier via e-transfer so will only require the collection of Sammy’s equipment left at my residence once the refund has been given. This experience has been extremely frustrating, causing significant stress for my family and me over several days due to the issues with your staff. With Sammy now terminated, I am concerned about the equipment that remains in my home, and I do not want him at my residence.
Thank you,
