He asked for the initial deposit to get the job started and then after the washroom was gutted asked for additional money as this was required, since they will be expediting the project. I beleived that things were going to move quickly, so I did provide an additional 30% to the project. After that, the bathroom was demoed, the mold was removed, and the drywall was installed. Everything was looking great and I had no doubts that things would not proceed as planned.
But things quickly changed after that point. He promised me that everything would be done before I returned from my vacation (Dec 2) and requested that we leave him a key so the workers can come freely to do their work. We did not agree to this and he was not too happy with that decision and tried to convince us otherwise. It has been over three weeks and no work has continued. He is now screening my calls, is not responsive (phone and text), provides multiple excuses as to why the next steps cannot be completed and goes days without contacting you. At this stage, I beleive that he has no intentions of completing the job and feel as if he is in complete control as he has our money (paid $17,500 and I would say roughly $4,500-$5,000 worth of work has occured - rough estimate (I have no records to know how much each task cost). To be honest I think he has now stolen the remaining money.
Overall, Melo is a slime ball. He comes off very sincere, is very responsive and accomonadating to all requests early on, talks a big game on how he has moved dates around to fit my job in and that my job will be his priority. He tells you that he will be on the job site daily to view his workers work, yet he has not stepped into my house once since he got his deposits.
I am very upset about this situation and I want to ensure that no other victims fall for his phoney tactics and fake business.
