Claimed our home warranty was about to run out (we don't have one) and to call immediately to prevent lapse in coverage. attached what looked like a check that had our previous mortgage lender on it.

small print at bottom say "this is not a check"

Probably legal,but certainly unethical, so I thought I'd report it.

I received an letter in the mail with my address and general lender information. On the top of the letter was a document that resembled a check and was labeled as a Renewal Fee Voucher for $199.00. Printed at the top was 'County Deed Records'. The rest of the letter was titled 'Final Renewal Notice' and stated that my home warranty is about to expire or may have already expired. The letter urged me to contact them immediately using an 1-800 number.
