Initially, I received a text message from a Ray Gernhart of Homelight, Inc informing me he received my application for a data entry clerk on Linkedin. He asked for my email to send me the information about the position. It looked legitimate. I researched the company and checked my Linked in to see if this was a job I applied for. I did not see it on my list so I proceeded to research the company and Ray. I thought perhaps I applied though their website and not linkedin. I sent at least 8 resumes so I thought it looked familiar. I responded to emails eventually leading up to completing an application online that requested all of my personal information. After a while, I felt ok with submitting my information even though I had a gut feeling but didn't listen to it because everything looked professional. BIGGEST. MISTAKE. EVER. After a few hours I decided to continue my research, eventually I came across a FB page of a Ray Gernhart, I checked his profile and things matched what was on the Homelight webpage. There was also a phone number. I contact this Ray Gernhart and asked if he had any connection with Homelight, Inc. He responded NO. I continued my mission and informed him of the website and what happened. This was NOT HIS PROFILE. We exchanged texts and he thanked me for reaching out as this was a fraud account. His IT dept made a police report and he instructed me to do the same (CA law, they cannot take a report unless there is a loss). I called the credit bureau Equifax and froze my accounts and signed up for Fraud alert. Within hours there was activity using my personal information. I am so scared this is going to lead some to major identity theft.
