Initially, the scammer contacts you via social media and provides you with a link to apply to a job, mystery shopper evaluator position. Once you provide your name, cell number, email, etc. you will be sent some emails guiding you through the process to build trust (study the "Check 21 Act" because all paychecks are sent via email for time and cost-effectiveness) and confidence in them that the position is legitimate, it is not. A typical assignment can earn you between $150 - $300 or more, it's a lie. When you accept your assignment a check and some instruction will be sent to you to complete the assignment. You will be required to go to some well-known companies to purchase their gift cards in the amount of $500 - $2,000, more or less and the difference will be what you will be paid. For example, the electronic check that you receive will be worth $2,223.00. You must immediately deposit that check into your bank account before you start your assignment so the money will clear in time for your assignment, it won't. Then, you must go out and purchase $2,000 worth of gift cards on your credit card or cash and call in the numbers to your "scammer." The remaining $223 is all yours for the assignment of the day. Note: Everything is done electronically either via email or text messages. The names of individuals or companies aren't important because they will certainly change but a scam is a scam and that will never change. I hope this helps!
