My husband and I were looking for a dog and we came across a breeder website in North Carolina for a reasonable price - Hunterridge Miniature Schnauzers. We spoke to the "breeder" and sent money via Cash App. There were photos of the dog on their website. We asked questions, they had answers. It seemed legit. They were supposed to send the dog up to Long Island, NY on a plane with a "dog nanny" and that was worked into the price. The day we were supposed to get the dog, before receiving the flight information, we received another email saying that we needed to wire additional money to a Premier Pet Flyers company for insurance for the dog on the flight and a COVID test. We thought this was odd and called the "breeder." He said that we had to pay it but it was refundable. I explained that his email had a status tracker for the Premier Pet and when I typed in the status code, nothing came up. He said he would call them and call us back. When he called us back, all of a sudden information came up on the said dog. When I asked where this money was supposed to go, he sent me another email with a location destination of "Charlotte, PA," when I called him again and asked why it said Pennsylvania he said that must be a mistake let me call again. He called and then I got another email all of a sudden with Charlotte, NC listed. We figured we were getting scammed so rather than send the money for the flight, I had said my husband and I would drive down to get the dog. We were told we couldn't do that and he wouldn't let us take a dog (that we had supposedly paid for) back to Long Island in a car. Realizing we were scammed, I filed a claim instantly with my bank and they went through proper actions. However, I was told my claim was denied because it needs to go through the Cash App. Since this has happened, the scam artists have shut down the Hunterridge page and changed to Ridge Valley Miniature Schnauzers. This website has the same dogs, the names are the same but they've swapped a few photos. Same information etc. I have been trying to get in touch with Cash App and they have zero customer support. I am trying to reach the "mother company" which is Square and they are limited with ways of how to help me. Cash App says that I have to request a refund, which I did. But, this is a scammer - they aren't going to just refund my money. The phone number for Cash App tells you to tweet them, which I have done for the past 48 hours to no avail, and have gotten no where. So I'm trying to understand how to go about getting my $620 back because that money was supposed to be for a dog, and I do not have a dog from these people. I'm frustrated and just want to speak to someone. So this report will be for both the Hunterridge Schnauzers but also Cash App, who allows this scammer to walk away richer.

My boyfriend and I are looking to adopt a miniature schnauzer and came across the Hunterridge Miniature Schnauzers website claiming to be a dog breeder of miniature schnauzers with a list of available puppies. We came across one brown puppy names Sam that has a white stripe and emailed the "breeder" to inquire and see if he was still available and asking if we could set up a video conference to meet the dog, "breeder," see where the dogs are bred, and give them a chance to get to know us. We felt this is especially important given the circumstances with Coronavirus. We received two very generic emails with misspellings and improper English that seemed automated as there was no personalization or even name given by the breeder. The website itself did not offer a location or address for the breeder or any personal information. We could not find any information on the existence of this breeder outside of its own website. Our questions in our email were completely glossed over and the breeder was focused on "shipping" the dog with a puppy chaperone on a plane (with no regard or mention of Coronavirus) and wire transfer or direct deposit to a bank account for payment before the dog even arrived. We never got past the two first emails and immediately felt this was a scam. Out of curiosity, I did a google image search of Sam (the dog we inquired about) and found a past website with the same colors, stock photos etc, that has been reported previously and featured the same dogs including names and prices ($550 for Sam for ex.) and saw that it had been reported previously on petscams.com (https://puppyscam.com/schnauzers/wildhavenminischnauzers-com-schnauzers-breeder...⇄ It appears these scammers had their past website shut down and just opened up another one.

The scammer set up a fairly sophisticated website with FAQs and "testimonials." At the bottom of the FAQs section, there is a question saying "Can we call you" with the following response: "Yes, if you must! I prefer to handle most of my business through email. It seems that the telephone only rings here on three (3) occasions, when I'm eating dinner, in the bathroom or sleeping. It is also sometimes difficult to catch me in the house. When you choose to raise dogs, you have to work according to their schedule, not yours. I long ago gave up having any set hours. I may be up all night delivering a new litter, or have gotten up at 3am to deliver a pup at the airport, so if I'm still in bed at the crack of noon, itsure isn't because I'm lazy!" They also claimed that they are "giving a 30% discount on all our current puppies because we're expecting our new litter by the end of next month so we want to sale the current puppies in order to reduce the work load since we have other jobs." It is disheartening to see that people want to take advantage of others in this way and I hope this shuts them down and prevents anyone from being scammed. The below is the first email we received back after expressing interest in "Sam."
