HWC uses very Deceptive tactics in mailing unsuspecting homeowners.
Type of a scam Bank/Credit Card Company Imposter Scam
Postcard recites that "We need you to call us about an important matter regarding this loan." - a mortgage I refinanced.
H.W.C. styled its notice to look like it's from my mortgage lender. Its claims that it is an "Important Notice" and that a "Response needed" to create a false sense of urgency. To reinforce this false sense of urgency, they address the customer by first and last name without using "Mr.," "Ms." or "Mrs." Doing that makes it look like it is from a collection division of the lender or from a collection agent.
Only in very small print does the sender acknowledge that all information is provided H.W.C. and they are not affiliated with or sponsored by your current lender.
And of course because the number is an (855) / toll free one, H.W.C. is able to see the phone number (and address, if calling from a land line) of anyone who falls for this sharp practice.
Would a legitimate, ethical business use these tactics, and send a solicitation without a return address?
