I called the number and the very annoying young man that answered my call instantly gave me red flags that whom I was calling wasn't in fact Microsoft as the page declared that number to be.
I did give this person control of my computer. I certainly hope they didn't do anything with my files and information. So as he's "scanning" my computer to find out the error he said that my *** anti virus wasn't compatible with my computer and showed me where to see that. As we were going along he first complimented me on my computer choice. WEIRD. Then he asked who my service provider was. I declined. He asked my to type in my email address so he could see if I had a warranty left on the computer. I declined. He at one point started to draw a house and explain some dramatic analogy as to what is going on. That is when I got very defensive and demanded to know the company. He said they were Microsoft support. Microsoft was the developer and they were Hypertech that did the service calls.
He also asked what I use my computer for and if I did online shopping. I can't believe I was so stupid to fall for this. When I realized I was being scammed I was using the touchscreen on my computer to disconnect him and that's when I saw my regular email and pages open that were not part of the "affected blaring page" that I was frozen on. I was able to literally click an x and close that warning page. I've since changed my passwords but I have no Idea what I should do now. I don't generally fall for scams so the fact that I did means many more people are at serious risk here with this fraudulent company. I am so mad right now but need assistance in shutting them down.
