I received an email from Windows Defender. When I opened the email: it was an Order Confirmation from Microsoft Accounts, thanking me for a "renewal of services". I have never ordered this product, it stated within the invoice a "Customer Service" number, so I called the number provided. (845)315-4123
I tried calling the number because it stated that I only had 72 hours to cancel the subscription. I also tried to reply to their email to STOP the order, the I had requested. Today, January 13, 2022, I finally was able to reach someone: Mr. Arthur (Argta?) Willams, who walked me through numerous attempts to process a "Refund). After numerous downloads of a product called: "Teamwork", he was able to control my computer. I questioned as to why he needed access to my computer; he replied that it was needed to be able to get to the REFUND. He then asked me to go into my bank account and asked if I had received the refund. I told him NO. Then the call was disconnected and then I immediately began receiving "4 spam calls", so I finally answered and they apologized for the drop call and would connect me to Mr. Williams. He began questioning as to how many bank accounts I had, I said 1, and why he needed to know that information and he replied that I must have used a credit card and wanted that information. I was now aware that this was a SCAM and told him so. He asked me if I had any cash and to go the local CVS and purchase a Visa card for $100, I just laughed at him, since I am a Manager at a similar type of store. He then laughed when I told him that I was onto his SCAM and replied for me to look at my computer screen and the arrow was moving all over the screen. He said that they were installing a VIRUS and that there wasn't anything I could do to remove it. Panic stuck in, so I immediately tried to get back to my downloads to delete, but could not, so I powered off the computer and closed my lap top.
