I was looking for a job and got accepted. Part of the onboarding process is they sent me a check of $970.50 to be used to pay for the software I need to perform the job. The check got cleared for use and I used the money to pay for the software online. After which, when I checked my bank, the same check got returned/reversed as the bank said it was counterfeit.
