The scammer called stating they were Direct TV offering a discount for existing customers. They knew my average monthly bill amount and knew to the penny my next bill and what date it was due. I did not provide account information they relayed it to me. I logged into my account as we were on the phone and he was able to post a payment to my account as well as turn on premium channels. Again, I did not provide information. It became strange when he then stated that I needed to pay $540 for 4 months advanced service in order to receive the offered 50% discount. He cleared my current bill and indicated that when I paid the $540 I would not have to pay for the next 4 months. The final step was to go to Walgreens and purchase an Ebay gift card for the $540 payment and I was given a "direct" billing number to call with a confirmation code to make my payment. I was told that Ebay was the sponsor of the discount, that is why I needed an Ebay gift card.

I immediately called AT&T to report the scam. The support staff was extremely helpful took down all of the information and fixed my account. The scammer had posted a payment that was pending and added the premium channel to my account. She had to remove the premium channel so I would not be charged an additional $21.99.

This scam is concerning as the person had access to my account and seemed to be able to immediately add channels and payments- without my providing personal information.
