Went to add the History Channel on my Roku tv . Then a notice popped up on my tv screen that asked me to contact the number listed in this complaint . Once there , a person with a middle east accent answered and procceded to tell me my two years of free roku was up - and that i needed an update to continue watching my roku ( tv's ) From there he had me give all my tvs info ( ie: serial numbers , make , model etc. ) i kept asking is there a charge for this , but he wouldnt answer ---- until the end of his speal . But that was only after he had my wife create an email address ( wifes name @ roku.com ) then my tvs went blank with a notice that my tvs would not work until updated . I was upset at this point because he said a one time charge of 259.99 MUST be paid or my tvs would never work again . I knew it was a scam , but my wife insisted she talk to them . At that time we didnt know what to do , so she paid them . Since then - we have definitively found out this group of indaviduals are in deed scamners - after actually getting ahold of ( ROKU TECH SUPPORT ) they cofirmed that we are not the first by this group . It seems they are working on the problem - but i in fact was responsible for giving them some information that ROKU TECHS - did not have . So -- here is how the scam works -- you call the number on the screen - then the scammers answer - once they get you you create an email at ××××× @roku.com - they have comeplete control of your tv .

I asked the techs at roku tv how -- they got their ( the scammers telephone number to appear on my tv ? ) thats the part they didn't know about . So - that is all the info i have , other than how to fix the problem . The consumer must go into the Roku tv settings & do a factory reset . Once that is done , they must re - register their tv ( s) with roku & get rid of the @roku.com email address & retype their origional email address used at registration of said tv . Once that is done . The tv will reboot & all is fixed . However - the customer will have to go back and manually log into any and all apps they have installed on these tvs . I sincerly hope this info helps , as it has taken my perseverance in this matter a few months to get it fixed .
