IMPOSTOR: Direct Energy Reports & Reviews (1)

A rep from "Direct Energy" came to my door. Said it was summer time and wanted to make sure I wasn't getting charged for the winter rates any longer in terms of energy. They had not done this last time. Like a goof, I went along with it, showing my previous bill. I'm an in-debt college grad and thought lower rates were just what I needed not so. He took my account number and immediately started speaking quickly. I knew the instant he left that I got hosed. That was a little over an hour ago. I've been trying to reach customer support but naturally they're closed for the day for both Ameren and "Direct Energy". I'm absolutely humiliated that this happened to me and now I'm racing to rectify.

If someone comes to your door with a new utility plan offer, don't say NO right away but be cautious. Once it comes to "may I see your bill", stop what you're doing and ask them for a pamphlet or an email on the offer to think about it. If you're more brash (good for you), tell them no promptly and they'll leave. These people are cunning, praying on old people, bad or no English speakers and gullible fools, such as myself. Direct Energy is apparently legitimate, though they're known for pushy sales tactics and shady business practices. Most likely, you'll want to pass.
