I received an odd email saying I purchased an M1Chip (ibm computer) and it was going to be shipped to me. The name and address were incorrect and I never placed an order. It had an amount due and order #. I did call the number provided in the email and a male with an Indian accent answered. I could not make out the company name he was claiming he was answering from. I did not say anything and hung up. I looked at the email more closely and noticed although it stated a John Pullman with a fake email labeled billingdept6431547, but billing departments do not typically have .gmail in their email accounts even if they use google email accounts. Another red flag was there wasn't a company name or website, only a url for the website, which is probably a virus. I also noticed in the subject line from a higher level, not while in the email I saw the name SagarSumitPayPalSumitSagar. I also don't have a Paypal account. So then I googled email PayPal scam.

This is what I found: The latest scam is the PayPal Transaction Email aka PayPal Smart Watch Purchase scheme.Scammers are banking on the fact that victims, knowing that they didn’t purchase anything, will try to claim that it was a mistake. The email provides links to the ‘PayPal store’ or the transaction page, to cancel/dispute the fake purchase.The link will open a replica of the real PayPal website (see below), which will ask you to log in by providing your email address and password. As you can imagine, once you give scammers that information, you can rest assured that your account will be vandalized.

The same version of the scheme happens in the PayPal Support Text Scam.

I marked the email as Spam and forwarded the email to [email protected].
