- Lancaster, CA, USA

Maria & Spencer claims to be a California based clothing company. Their website (which now seems to have been taken down) lists a location somewhere in Los Angeles & has a phone number with a 213 area code, yet the rest of the phone number is missing a digit (clearly a red flag). They claim to be having a going out of business sale with items on clearance…this is how they hook you in. The items pictured on their website appear to be high quality. In my case I ordered 2 pairs of what I believed & what appeared to be denim jeans with unique design, specific side seam detailing & colorful prints. What I received was something made of synthetic fabric, clearly not cut anything like advertised, very cheaply made & absolutely nothing resembling what they had advertised on their website, besides the pattern which was printed on top of the cheap fabric. The pants only had a size tag, no description of what type of fabric or how to care for the product. This is illegal because people need to know what they’re putting on their skin due to potential allergic reactions. As a designer myself, I know this…at the very least it is a violation. I didn’t even bother trying on the pants nor did I bother to even open the package for the second pair as I could see the poor quality. I took photos of the one pair & turned them inside out to take photos as evidence of how terribly made they were. I placed the pants back inside the plastic packaging with every intent to send them back. I am usually very good with checking product reviews prior to making purchases but for some reason I just didn’t this time.

I contacted my credit card company & filed a claim & fortunately they did a chargeback & refunded me in full.

After a few days I was contacted by Maria & Spencer via email. They informed me that the chargeback was unauthorized & threatened legal action since I hadn’t yet returned the merchandise. I informed them that I would be returning the merchandise & they should be ashamed for scamming people out of their hard earned money. They flat out committed fraud. They continued harassing me & threatening legal action against me. Finally I provided them with a tracking number & sent proof that the merchandise was on the way. Mind you, since they were actually located in China, not the U.S. as they falsely advertised on their website, I had to pay $66+ to have it shipped back overseas to them so needless to say, I was & am not happy about this. So now I am out $66+ plus I have no merchandise…a complete waste of my time, energy & money. Now, weeks later, they have the audacity to continue to email me attempting to collect the $101.92 for the merchandise I’ve already returned along with threats of legal action. So now they’re committing extortion. They also go under another name which popped up on my Instagram feed but I didn’t get the name before I reported them. I know it’s the same people behind it because they have the exact same merchandise & they also claim to be having a “stores are closing” sale. BUYERS BEWARE because they are still out here scamming & committing fraud under different names. Please do your research & read the reviews prior to purchasing anything. Fortunately, I do know consumer law & I know my rights as a consumer so if you’re reading this Maria & Spencer, whoever you are behind this fake company, you can try to come after me but be prepared to battle. I will counter sue & YOU WILL LOSE!!! Scamming, defrauding & extorting IS NOT OK!!!
