Type of a scam Employment
Today, I received fantastic news through the same communication channel that I had been selected for the job. The next step involved going through ID.me for a background check, a request that seemed reasonable given the need for employers to verify the credentials and history of their prospective employees. At this point, they requested my Social Security Number (SSN) and driver's license information, which I provided, trusting the legitimacy of the process up to that moment.
However, the situation took a dubious turn when they asked for the login details of my ID.me account. This request raised immediate red flags for me as it seemed highly irregular and a potential breach of personal security. In an attempt to verify the authenticity of the company and the individuals I was communicating with, I asked for their LinkedIn profiles. Additionally, I requested the offer letter, which is typically provided before or during such background checks. Their response was that the offer letter would be provided after the completion of the background check.
The refusal to provide LinkedIn profiles or an offer letter, coupled with the request for my ID.me login details, has left me deeply concerned about the legitimacy of this job offer and the intentions of the individuals behind it. This sequence of events has prompted me to question the authenticity of the company and reconsider my engagement with this job offer.
