The same happened to us. Both my husband and I are not totally tech savy and fell for the scam. By the time we wanted to cancel the service it was to late. Now each time we call for help since we sign up they demand an additional fee usually of about $4.99 or around that number. I told them we paid enough for their so called service and will not pay another dime. They told me I was belligerent and don't understand. They need this for a processing fee. After I refused to pay the fee they hung up on me 4 times. They also gave me a telephone number to call if we were disconnected. When I called that number I was connected to Dish Network to buy a cable contract. I called back to tell them about this, and they told me it must have been a technical glitch. I spoke to one of the "supervisor's". His name is Simon Harris and his working station number is #6235. He tried to sell me that the $4.99 is for a $100 promotion for a coupon to any tech company that I want to purchase something for a whole year. But unfortunately he has to charge me a processing fee. I told him, I don't want the promotion, what I want is to be taken care of my problem. He hung up on me. Our contract is until June 18, 2020 for technical support and security supervision. The rest of the service is for a life time as long as you own the computer or it transfers to a new computer if you need to purchase one. I hope to be able to get out from my fraudulent contract, cancel the credit card we put the purchase on, so they cannot renew the contract without our permission. Why can't they be stopped and shut down. What can I do besides writing to you, the BBB to have this taken care of.

Thank you for your help in advance
Have a great day.

Sincerely
Regina

A yellow pop-up appeared on my computer screen. An alarm kept sounding that would not stop. could not get out of it. computer was locked. The voice kept saying I was infected with a virus, do not attempt to turn my computer off if I did the virus will steal my information on my bank accounts and such. I must call the number listed on the orange. I did not know what else to do. I called the number and a mail answered the phone and said that he was a Microsoft employee and that I had been hacked. He asked me a bunch of questions, and said he would connect me with one of their techs who would fix the problem. He asked to access the computer and proceeded to show me files that had been put in to steal my personal information. When the tech was on the line, he said he could fix the problem for $199.00. He also told me that this could happen again and that he could offer me different options to see that it could not happen again. The life time fee, including sales tax would be $1898.00. I agreed to it. The left an icon on my computer with his name, and numbers to call in the future if I had any further problems. I checked with the white pages and none of the numbers were assigned to any one. The phone number on the web site was not assigned to anyone either. To avoid fraud they wanted me to give them my driver's licence number which i did. I have filed a police report and will be seeing the officer in charge of fraud.

While using my computer on July 23, a pop-up message appeared to be from Microsoft advised that the computer had been hacked and that I should call a specific toll free number for information. I called the number and was connected to Inilink. Michael, and then John, of inilink advised in order to fix the problem he would need access to my computer and would need to provide protection service. Fearing loss of my computer and all data I agreed to the purchase. John instructed me to place my credit card alongside my face and permit a photo to be captured via the computer. I did not comply because I was not having a picture of me taken nor was I going to have a picture of my cc taken. Unfortunately, I did agree to allowing a picture of the credit card with the last 4 digits only showing. Michael initiated a scan and purported correction for my computer. After this payment, Michael initiated actions on my computer and the computer was returned to the operational status it had prior to the appearance of the Warning pop-up window. Now I am concerned that my information has been taken from my computer and I will be seeing future problems with my financial accounts. I am working with the cc company I paid from and they ae working with me to dispute the charge.
