A scammer reached out to me wanting me to buy an item for sale on Facebook Marketplace. They offered to transfer the money to us via a Zelle app. They asked for our phone # and email address to direct the money. We then received an email claiming to be from Zelle, indicating the scammer was using a business account and an additional $300 had to be submitted for the original payment to be transferred. The scammer asked for a screenshot of the email, which we sent. The scammer said they would send the additional funds, but only if we assured them we would return the funds. We gave assurance via Facebook Messenger, then received another email stating the funds were received. At that point, the scammer attempted to start a video chat with us through Facebook Messenger, to go through the refund process. We initially missed the first call because we Googled the Zelle email address to confirm it was not a scam. The scammer attempted a second call with us, which we answered. The individual was male, had an accent, and identified themself and the original purchaser's husband. We asked for his name, and he declined to give one, choosing instead to say nothing. Then we hinted at the fact it was a scam, and he left the Messenger call. We did not receive anymore emails or messages after the call. Upon reviewing our bank account, no money had been transferred to us.
