Wanted to purchase a Maine C o o n cat. Seller asked for $800. She wanted a deposit of $400. I tried to pay on Venmo, but three versions of her name, each with separate numbers following the name, came up. I clicked the one with the number she told me to click, and the next screen showed her name with no numbers following at all. I paid, and she then told me it did not go through. I doubled check and was certain I had picked the one she mentioned. She then told me that since Venmo wasn't working, I should pay with an American Express gift card, which I did. I thought everything was settled. Her transport company then sent me a text, sending me to a website with the tracking information.
Then it all started!
They texted me asking me for a refundable amount of $800 for a carrying case for the cat's comfort (they said I would be reimbursed with cash when they arrived)
After paying that with another gift card, they then said they needed another $1500 for insurance, also reimbursable. I paid that by gift card.
The next day they texted me for another $2000 for customs! They were supposed to be coming from Delaware!
I stopped that point (I know, stupid me). I told them I knew they were a scam. They called me and assured me they were good Christian people and wouldn't do as well as threatening me with reporting me to an animal protection group for endangering the cat by not allowing the transport to take place.
I have texts of all the conversations with the buyer and the supposed transport company, receipts for all the gift cards, and recording the last conversation I had with the company.
