All of this sounds great, right? NO! I was then contacted by a "Richard McClendon" and to only contact him through the Telegram app to receive my weekly tasks. The first week I was asked to create a winning presentation about where I live to get international students excited about coming here. I spent hours creating the presentation and they said they absolutely loved it. Then I was asked to research international airports and hotels near there for students to stay at. While I was working on this, he called me and said that there is an emergency and a bunch of students are stuck at this hotel for another week due to COVID-19 and I need to help them pay for their hotel. They e-transferred me $2900 and told me to withdraw $2800 to pay for the hotel and keep $100 as my Uber charges. After withdrawing, they told me to go to a bitcoin ATM and deposit it and send them a confirmation code. After coming home, I found an article on CTV (https://bc.ctvnews.ca/job-seekers-drawn-into-possible-money-laundering-scheme-1...⇄ on how this is a money laundering scam. I wish I read this before I accepted the job. I am now out $2900 because the transfer bounced and I had to pay the bank with my own money. I did tell the bank right away that I was scammed so they knew it was coming and I wouldn't get in any trouble. Guys, please please please be careful.
