I was first contacted via text by the phone number +13019059719 saying they reviewed my resume on zip recruiter, offering me a job as a data entry clerk. I responded that I was interested and they proceeded to tell me to download the app Signal, contact the number 202-936-6520 and give the verification code I was given. The contact came up as Barbra Lund on Signal, who is real but is not them. I did all these things and then they started to explain more about the company to me and vaguely explaining how the position works, not in detail about what it will entail. We then proceeded to conduct an interview over text answering a set of questions in a time limit of 15 minutes each, 3 sets with 15 questions total, none of them asking for any personal information. After I passed the interview and offered me the "job", they then told me that I would need to purchase a list of the required office equipment through a trusted vendor of theirs, and that they will email me a check of $1650.23 and make the purchase with that money. They claimed the department was having issues with mailing checks and they did email it, though there was no bank or sender name on it. They said they wanted verification of the check being deposited, a screenshot of the check on my mobile banking app. I deposited the check and they said a payment of $1500 will be made through cashapp, zelle or paypal while $50 would be a bonus (what about the remaining $100.23 I thought). I claimed to not have any of those apps, and they proceed to tell me I can make an activation software purchase of $1500 with my debit card at a Target, Walgreens, Lowes, Riteaid, CVS, Kroger. At this point i was just messing with them after. There were quite a few typos, mis use of certain words and all around broken english, very obviously a scam.
