They were offering incredibly low priced rentals via craigslist, instructing interested individuals to contact them by phone. Once you make contact by phone you're instructed to email someone to proceed. Of course, the email you get in return is the usual bologna story - they send you a long email, playing nice, explaining how they aren't in the area, how you can't look inside the apartment until you secure the keys and rental document, and they give you all of these lovely sounding details about the rental property to highlight how much of a steal this is. Here's the email below:

Thanks for the email, My name is Sarah Lawson. I am writing on behalf of my husband, Jack Lawson who owns the Apartment. It is situated at "1911 Kalakaua Ave FL 5TH, Honolulu, HI 96815" and it is available for rent. We are looking for a responsible person to rent it to and also someone who will promise to take very good care of it as we are not just after the money for the rent but also the cleanliness and maintenance of the Apartment. The tenant has to take care of it as if it were his/her own.

I hope you will promise us to take very good care of the Apartment. Please get back to me. Hope you are okay with the price of $900 per month with hydro,heat laundry facilities,air condition, internet and so on. I look forward to hearing from you ASAP so that I can forward you rent application to fill out and discuss on how to get the house for rent. Also inform me if you are ready to rent the apartment immediately, You can go view the Apartment but you cannot go into it until you get the keys and documents due to the distance between us.
