I had just tried to reach my Vet, when my phone rang, I answered and the man said his name was Jacob, and he asked if I could hear him. I said yes and the connection was broken so I tried to call him back and the number rang once and then disconnected. We had just received an alert the phone service in my area was having some issues, so I didn't think anything of it at first. Then I remembered hearing about a phone scam like this and now I'm afraid that this will cause me problems with my credit cards, or worse

I contacted my security service because their online debit to my account was submitted earlier than usual and I wanted to know why. It appears that the scammer was already into my account because I received an online message that my computer was slow and if I noticed it; further, not to touch my computer until he gives me the OK. I got suspicious and started questioning my initial request for information. The session went downhill from there along with a request for $99.99 to cover the clean-up of my system which would take 60-80 minutes; or if preferred an automatic debit for $149.99.
I indicated that payment would be impossible today (4/19/2017) but perhaps in 24-48 hours, He asked if I was close to a Wal-Mart. When asked why he indicated that I could purchase a prepaid credit card to cover the payment. I told him I would get back to him, and hung up.
I later contacted another number at my security company asked if the telephone number or person named was part of their company, and I was told "no"; and that it was a scam to sell hacker software.
