Jason Schwarz was a job placement organization on Indeed. Contacted me for a job i applied for. Ask if I had used a job placement organization before and I said yes. He said he wouldn’t go into the boring details then. He set up an interview with the job I applied for and it went well. He contacted me again shortly after for a second interview with the same company which also went well. The company was Shearers foods in Bluffton, Indiana. He called to inform me they were going to send me an offer for $31.20/hr with a $3500 hiring bonus. I would get 50% of the bonus at 30 days of employment and the other 50% at 60 days of employment to be added to my pay with a stipulation of working there for 6 months.I told him to send me the contract. When I received the contract it stated 50% at 30 days and the other 50% at 90 days. I was ok with that. Then instead of a 6 month stipulation it was 1 year I was ok with that. I would pay Shearers back the bonus money if I quit or they fired me before then. I was ok with that because they needed assurance I wasn’t going to take the money and run. Pretty common practice. Then at the very end Jason Schwarz had a separate contract stating I would also be legally liable to pay him $7500 if the company terminated me other than plant closures or downsizing before 1 year of employment or I quit .I called and ask him about his added contract and he said sign it or the entire deal was going to be canceled. I ask him why he wasn’t up front with that from the beginning because that would’ve been a deal breaker for me before going through the entire process. He said that was the boring details he decided not to get into. He never verbally mentioned it with Shearers offer over the phone either. I felt blackmailed at that point and wanted him to remedy the situation. He wouldn’t and closed the offer and told Shearers I declined. I agreed with Shearers contract but not his separate contract. I contacted other job placement agencies and they said they never heard of that before. I feel he cost me a good paying job by telling them I declined. This was unethical and blackmail as far as I am concerned. I am also considering legal action against him.
