I was attempting to find more gainful employment and I found a job listing on my county facebook group for a Data Entry Position with Catholic Charities USA. I sent them an email about the job offer and they sent one back to set up an interview. The process was all done over text, which I took as something new to occur after COVID, as I had had another interview that was all prerecorded. They asked me some pretty standard interview questions, and got back to me the next day to tell me I had the job. After that they had me sign a very brief employment contract, and had me fill out a form with my SSN, DOB, and a copy of my driver's license. My first indication that something was wrong was when they gave me a list of the tools, resources, and software they'd be sending me. I began looking into the software and found the whole thing listed word for word in an article about this very thing. I began digging deeper and found a lot more red flags that I had just over looked; The briefness of the interview and the employment contract, the way the email address was structured, and I even found out that the information about the company was ripped from Wikipedia...I feel like a complete [censored] for not noticing but...here we are.
