I asked if this is a remote job, if they will provide a laptop, what are the hours and she said remote job, I can work on my personal laptop or tablet and 1-4 hours in the morning.
She also asked me to fill out the application form on their website:
Application Form here - https://jobim.biz/application-form/
She again called and emailed me the next day (05/04/2023) and asked me to fill out the application form.
I completed the application form on 05/04. Next day, 05/05, she sent me another email that I will receive a call from +1 925 478 7181 and someone will take my interview. Later that day, Ayanna called me and took my interview. Asked about my previous job experiences.
On 05/08/2023, they sent me the offer letter. They also wrote the following in the same email:
Please also complete Banking details form which is attached to this email as
well. (Please fill out this form carefully, we will credit your salary directly
to this account).
Please note - for security purposes we need a copy of your ID or driver license
to confirm your identity. It's very important. You may use scanner/digital
camera. Your documents will be used only for verification purposes and will be
stored in the secure area.
To verify your identity, please, also take a picture with your driver's license
or ID near to your face (a selfie).
On 05/19, I wrote back asking for the notice time period which was mentioned as 4 weeks in the contract and she wrote back:
If you want to resign, then you need to warn in 2 weeks before the dismissal.
I read the contract, there was a lot of confidentiality stuff in it.
On 05/24, I signed the contract and attached my banking details with my DL and a selfie.
On 05/30, I received an email from Anna Robinson ([email protected]). Please note that all the emails are on the same chain, even though the addresses may look different.
She wrote:
You will be receiving assignments as a part of the training.
And to send all emails to: [email protected]
Till this point they had not asked me to provide any sort of employment documentation. So on 06/04/2023, I proactively sent Ayanna a scanned copy of my employment document to make sure that all documentation was provided to them from my end.
According to them:
We are currently taking you on probationary period. If you continue to work after the probationary period, you will also have to fill out another form. At the moment, the documents that you signed are enough.
Starting June 13, everyday Anna would send me a task. I was supposed to download an app on my mobile and laptop, register it using my personal details (date of birth, address etc) and then get it verified using a photo id (like DL or passport). This was strange because they didn’t give me any official Jobim domain email address to use. I was asked to continue working with my personal email. I even asked them if this wouldn’t conflict with the confidential information of their clients and they asked me to continue using my personal email id.
I was asked to download and install the following apps on my phone and laptop. To register and verify using my personal details and photo ids:
06/13/2023 - WISE
06/14/2023 - Telegram
06/14/2023 - Coinbase cryptocurrency
06/15/2023 - CEX.IO
06/16/2023 - Blockchain Wallet
On 06/15, I sent them an email asking about salary details. They called back and told me, ‘first salary after 40 days, after that monthly salary’. They also said that I will earn 5% commission on each transaction. They just wanted me to buy and exchange crypto currency and not do any of the other jobs mentioned in my job description.
Same day, Anna sent me a message on Telegram app:
Today we will also provide you a corporate account in your name, you will attach it to your bank account as an external account. After that, after 1-2 days I will tell you the verification deposits and you will verify the account and you will be able to exchange money to exchange cryptocurrencies.
She attached screenshots of the steps I was supposed to do to add the account. It stated that I was the owner of the external account and to add it as a Personal Savings account and not as a Business Checking or Savings account.
I sent them an email the next day (06/16/2023) that this was something new and I had never heard of anyone adding a corporate account as a Personal Savings account to their bank account. I received a call from Ayanna where she said that I had signed a contract with them so I shouldn’t worry and whatever they were asking me to do was safe and legal.
I did some research and came to know transfer fees and applicable transaction fees may apply on my personal bank account. Jobim had opened a corporate account in my name but I had no idea exactly how much money they would be depositing or withdrawing and I was worried about charges. These concerns were not answered, they kept asking me to attach the account.
On 06/18/2023, I resigned for personal reasons. I don’t know if this job is legal or a scam. The fact that they wanted me to attach the bank account to my personal bank account and not asking for my employment documentation made me very uneasy. They never answered any of my concerns. Every time I would ask them a question in writing, they would call me and never write anything in emails.
I looked up the address mentioned in the offer letter. Astoria is a housing complex in Hong Kong. Their registered office address is:
Astoria Block 3, 198 Argyle St, attn 4990, Ma
Tau Wai, Hong Kong (ID 90288571)
Jobim.biz is showing as a website with high scam activities on https://www.scamadviser.com/check-website/jobim.biz
The number Ayanna was using to call me +1 925 478 7181 is registered to Nicole Sykes.
Jobim has my bank account details (which I gave so that they can credit my salary in it). As of today (07/05/2023), I have not received any salary from them for the 4 days that I worked. They also have a copy of my employment documentation and DL with my selfie. I’m worried about identity theft.
I resigned on 06/18/2023. I specifically wrote that I won’t be taking any calls. However, on 06/19/2023, I received several calls from Ayanna. Then she wrote that Jobim is not going to fire me. They have refused to take my resignation so at this time I’m waiting for my notice period of 2 weeks to get over. I’m not taking any calls from unknown numbers because I don’t want to have any conversation with them which is not in writing. As of July 2nd, my 2 weeks of notice period with them is also over.
I would like you to investigate this company and share your findings. Thank you for your time.
