A man with a very thick accent called and asked for me by name, and when I said "Yes", he hung up. The name he gave me was John Smith.

I found the scammer on Roomster.com they were trying to rent out a house for sale on Zillow. Com the address is * ******** ****** Asheville, NC. I never spoke to them in person, just text. They said they would rent a room for $350 security deposit and $350 a month for rent. They told me when they got my $700 they would fedex the keys to me. The whole thing seemed too good to be true. They said they didn’t deal with realtors, but there was a realtor lock on the door.

The scammer contacted me via University Email claiming he was working with a London Art Gallery and was running a work study program. He was looking for a PA to help him with his work. He first asked me to pick up blank checks from staples/Office Depot. Then proceeded to ask/instruct me to get 2 $100 gift cards to “help disabled students overcome a disability”.

Person identifying himself as John Smith called my workplace and asked for me by first and last name. Call was transferred to me and this person asked if he was speaking to me, using my first and last name. I answered "yes" and he hung up. Information on ID was Shamong in NJ. Attempts to contact this person by above phone # results in 1 or 2 rings, then a busy signal.
