I received an e-mail from Johnson VC Co at [email protected] with an attached invoice ostensibly from PayPal regarding a purchase I did not make for McAfee Antivirus products. When I called the "support" number on the invoice: 802-763-0468, I was sent down a path of using my IPhone only, downloading apps and changing phone settings. They got me to download an app which seemed to give them visual access to my screen. When I expressed my discomfort with their instructions they assured me that they could not see my financial information and that the conversation was being recorded for the BBB. When I protested that their explanation as to why I had to open an account at a financial institution that I do not do business with, they vastly increased the amount of money I stood to lose if I did not let them help me. Since they were having me apply for an account at Western Union, I presume they were going to have me deposit or wire money. However, the form they wanted me to complete would have required my typing all of my personal info (DOB, street address, etc). It was at that point I ended the call. I subsequently contacted PayPal, who assured me that no such charge had been submitted for payment on my PayPal account.
