Received email with auto charge of $499.99 to continue service; called 888-909-2653, as instructed on email, to cancel the service. The contact member Josh Carter instructed me to take a series of steps to remove virus protection from my computer. My virus protection comes from xfinity, so I was confused by his request. He insisted the protection was coming from Best Buy Geek Squad and needed to take such steps to create the refund ticket. The ticket appeared and I had to fill in my name, address, home and mobile number, name of Bank, and his name. Then he asked me to go my bank website and look for a message stating, “refund on the way.” I insisted my Geek Squad auto renewal will be charged to my Best Buy credit card, and I never had any business refund money in this way. He insisted it will be refunded to my bank. I opened the account, there was no message notifying me of a refund in process, he put his “manager” on the phone who began talking nonsense. I hung up, attempted to shut down my computer, but realized that they downloaded a virus. I then called the bank to alert them of potential suspicious activity. The scammers then called me several times on my home and mobile phone from # 888-493-4889, but I didn’t take the call and then blocked the number.
