I replied to an ad on craigslist for an travel trailer. The person responded and we exchanged emails. She said they wanted to go through ebay services to protect us both. The person said her husband died last month and she wanted to get rid of the travel trailer because it held too many memories. I received an invoice from what I thought was a legit ebay invoice. I would never send any cash to a total stranger but since it was ebay, or so I thought, I trusted I was protected and it was legit. Little did I know. They asked that I purchase ebay gift cards for the transaction. I contacted ebay after I realized I had been scammed and they said it was in fact a scam and it happens a lot. For anyone who may not know this, I did not, whenever ebay sends you any kind of email, invoice, etc. they also send it to your ebay messages. An expensive lesson learned.
