Total money lost $200
Type of a scam Online Purchase
I Found exactly what I wanted from a seller in Huntsville AL. I called and spoke to the owner named Rocky Kenzo Talla. After talking about the Ezgo TXT cart, I agreed to purchase the cart for $3,500. I asked how the payments would work, and how it would be shipped. Rocky asked for $1000 down. I refused to pay that much down, until we could confirm shipping information. However, to show good will, I agreed to send to Rocky $200 by Zelle.
Once Rocky received the $200, we received an email from [email protected] which contained a shipping tracking number. This email further stated that the customs department of the shipping company will need insurance in the amount of $200 to insurance 2 packages, and $99 for a courier insurance. The total of $299.00 can be paid via Paypal, Cashapp, Chime, Zelle or Apple Pay, and must be paid in case the package does not arrive.
This surprised me. First a package from Alabama should not require customs, as Alabama is in the USA. Secondly, a golfcart should be shipped in a single package, and not 2 packages. Also insurance should be part of shipping and handling by the seller, with payment from me to the seller, not to an unknown 3rd party shipper. Because of this request for more money before the package could be shipped, but by providing a tracking number from a "usps..." email, I decided to investigate the validity of uspsglobalshipping, and the address of the sales person Rocky Kenzo Talla, I discover that the 3rd party shipping company uspsglobalshipping is invalid, and the USPS would be very interested in knowing this preson is fraudently representing themselves as part of the Post Office. This is a federal fraud case, as Alabama to Michigan is crossing state lines. Plus misrepresenting themselves as part of the USPS is a Federal fraud case.
In confronting Rocky on this, he stated it was out of his hands, as it is the responsibility of the shipping company. I reminded him that as the Seller, has the choice of shipping options and the responsibility of shipping falls on him. Further Rocky received the $200 for the downpayment on the sale of the cart. That he is indeed responsible! Rocky hung up on me.
Finally, I realize it is unlikely that I will ever get my $200 back.
I wish to press fraud charges against Rocky Kenzo Talla, if this is even his real name. I am greatful that we didn't send more money, as so many others have done.
I would like to do whatever it takes to stop the likes of this fraudulent activity so that others do not experience such losses. The sad thing is Facebook Marketplace is a great service, and most people who use it are honest. It is sad that some wish to take advantage of people who believe in the option to purchase through on-line marketing! What can we do to stop these crooks?
