Type of a scam CryptoCurrency
January 9, 2022: My son received a "video message" from Instagram account, "madelineruuge_," which is a friend of a friend. He did not know at the time his friend's friend Instagram account was hacked. Nor did he know his friend's friend did NOT make the video. (The scammer did). The person posing to be "Maddie," (original owner of the hacked madelineruuge" Instagram Account), said she had invested money with "Kimberly_fx52" on Instagram, ({an Instagram account that was later removed but had been owned by the scammer}, and had made a good return on her investment, in a fairly short time. The removed account has been replaced by at least two other similar accounts that have also been taken down from Instagram. The scammer however, is still operating on Instagram as there are now two additional accounts currently being operated by the scammer. The Account bios and the account names are almost identical. The two current Instagram Accounts that are similar to the one with which my son communicated are: "Kimberly_fx32; & Kimberly_fx81". At the time he saw the "Maddie" video, he thought the "Kimberly" bio information seemed legitimate, so he chose to invest in the "Bitcoin Currency" Kimberly was promoting was giving good returns. He sent several deposits to "Kimberly_fx52" over the next 5 weeks. (Last date of investing was February 9, 2022). My son's first two deposits were sent to two different "Zelle Accounts" to get his investment started, (per "Kimberly_fx52). The remaining deposits he sent to "Kimberly_fx52" were placed in the "Bitcoin Wallet" number that "Kimberly" gave him. Kimberly in turn sent my son snap shots of his money compounding money. When he wanted to withdraw money however, Kimberly kept telling my son there were a lot of new accounts opened, and in order to get pushed to the top for cashing in, he would need to give a little more money to "expedite" the retrieval of his funds. Kimberly told my son this several times, until he didn't have any more money to give, at which point Kimberly suggested my son could sell some items in our home to get the "extra cash" he needed to retrieve his money. When he insisted he did not have any more money, Kimberly became very hostile, and stopped "following my son" on Instagram so he could not communicate with her anymore. (Kimberly's accounts are private, and require her to accept you to follow her).
