King County Sheriff Deputy Marshall Mark Price Reports & Reviews (1)

I believe this to be a multi-stage or a two-part scam as there were two separate calls relating to each other.

My mother received a phone call on Friday afternoon from a "Deputy Marshall Mark Price, Badge #5362, Contact #206-485-3820" informing her that a summons to appear at the Federal Courthouse in Seattle for Federal Grand Jury Duty was sent to her in the mail on November 16, 2016 and the confirmation and response form inside was signed by her and sent into The Courthouse as instructed and received on November 28, 2016. He told her the appearance date for jury duty was Dec. 1, 2016 and because she did not show up for said duty, a federal judge had issued a "Failure to Appear Charge" and a "Contempt of Court Charge". My mom stated she never received any such notice and asked if he had the correct address. The caller acted as if he was about to repeat the address to her when she rambled the address herself. I do not believe he had her address at this time. The caller told her that The Civil Prosecutor's Office handles these types of charges and he was following up on their behalf in an attempt to locate and contact individuals who have been charged in order to inform them of the steps involved in resolving this matter. The caller then told my mom there is a process for clearing up these types of charges and that in order to take care of the matter she would have to do three things:

1. She would need to report to the Seattle Federal Courthouse and leave a signatory hand writing sample that would be examined and processed within 12-48 hours to determine if she was the one that signed the form.

2. Maintain an open line of communication during the 12-48 hour time frame.

3. Post a "retainer fee" of $1,500 for the Failure to Appear Citation and a $1,000 "retainer fee" for the Contempt of Court Citation with the federal courthouse.

He then went on to say that upon determining her signature was forged or falsified, the retainer fees would be refunded to her. Mom asked him when all this had to be done and he said, "today" at which point she said that was impossible and so he gave her the number of the federal courthouse department she could call and schedule a time to come in. The number he gave her was 1-877-281-0096. The caller and my mom then hung up. I asked my mom to call the courthouse number while it was still a business day where she was instructed to leave a message and someone would call her back. She did and they did.

The following morning, Saturday, a caller returned her call regarding her attempt to schedule an appointment to come to the courthouse. The caller identified himself as Deputy Marshall Mark Price. My mom was wanting to schedule this appointment for later in the week and the caller told her this matter had to be taken care of immediately as two "felony temporary bench warrants" had been issued. When she asked him what the acceptable forms of payment for the retainer fees were he told her she could go to Rite Aid, Safeway or Fred Meyer and purchase a "green" pre-paid credit card and load the money on it. At the point of determining she was not the signer of the confirmation form she would receive a cashiers check for the total retainer fee amount he was now referring to as a "bond". The call then disconnected. While I was standing next to my mother, the phone rang immediately again and the caller i.d. displayed the # 206-485-3820 so I answered. The caller requested my mom by name at which point I identified myself and told him she would not be coming to the phone. I then told him we appreciated him informing my mom of the situation and on Monday morning I would be contacting the WA State Attorney General's Office to confirm what he was telling her was legitimate as well as the King County Sheriff's Office to confirm his employment status. The caller then became very upset and agitated with my involvement in the matter and began to rudely tell me "they have evidence of my mom's...". I interrupted the caller very loudly, told him we didn't care what he had and instructed him to not call back and he hung up the phone.
