Type of a scam Home Improvement
Contractor strung me along from 10/2/24 through 10/6/24, making bogus excuses about the weather, automobile issues and personal relationship problems for not being able to begin work. He would set times to meet up but always had a reason not to show as scheduled.
Finally, on 10/7/24 he showed up at 11:30 am, moved plants & other objects from the work area and began to remove siding on the north side of the house. By the time he left at 2:30 he had removed only 36.67 feet of siding - all on one side of the house. 10 feet of that was part of a second row, making it only 26.67 feet removed. He also spent a large amount of time talking on the phone instead of working. That evening around 6:20 pm he returned and dropped off materials in my yard while I was at work.
The next day, 10/7/24, he showed up around 7:15 am, (which I only knew about because he sent a text), and was gone before I got up at 8:00 am. When I called him to get a status update he got hostile and started yelling about termite infestation and how he was already doing more work than he had agreed to and how he wasn't going to do work where termites were present. I reminded him that he had already collected much more money than he was entitled to and that he owed me a refund. I pointed out that the 2 dormers on the roof were not adjacent to that particular wall and that they could be completed while I dealt with exterminating the termites. He stated that NO money would be refunded then started yelling about something else so I hung up. At 8:57 am I sent him a text questioning his right to unlawfully lay claim to, (or rather to steal) my money, having put in a mere 4-5 hours of work over a period of 8 days and not having completed anything. I also pointed out again that he should at least complete the dormers, which are specifically referenced in his contract, and requested receipts or invoices for the materials he brought. He replied by text stating he would "do everything in the contract;" yet another lie.
He left the job with the walls exposed to weather and moisture on the outside of the house and did the same with the materials he left sitting on the ground- no tarp or protection from the elements. He has made no attempt to set things right or to in any way rectify the situation. Since 10/7/24 he refuses to answer phone calls or respond to texts or voice messages. It is obvious that he fully intends to keep all the money as he stated and he has no intention of doing any work for it.
As a result of all this nonsense, he caused me to miss a deadline for completion of the repairs that was imposed by my homeowner's insurance agent.
In addition to swindling and stealing, contractor has misrepresented his qualifications, willingness and ability to complete work as stated in the contract that he, himself drew up.
I have since learned he is not "Certified" at anything, as his business name implies, and he is not registered with the State Licensing Board for Contractors.
