I applied for by submitting a proposal for a job on Upwork.com and was notified that I had been selected to complete an interview using Telegram. I went through the process, was hired - the company is based in Germany. The company sent me an employment contract and after I returned a signed copy they sent me a check to purchase a computer and phone for the work. I deposited the check - had trouble completing the transaction with the vendor and after 3 hours of frustration decided that the job and I were not a good fit, so sent the money back via Apple Pay. Bank called this morning and said the check was fraudulent and I am out $2500.
