Type of a scam Other
The "document fee" for paying for these posters is listed as $84 due by 10/3/2016. The letter threatens that if I fail to comply there can be fines up to $17,000. The letter cites Federal Law USC Sec. 999 (i) & 29 Sec. 2005 as their reasoning for collecting these fees.
This letter was sent to my business address less than a week after the business was registered with the state. The only contact information listed is a gmail account ([email protected]). There isn't a website or phone number listed anywhere on the letter.
The company I used to register my business (LegalZoom) actually sent an email to me the day after they got my LLC filings back from the state saying to watch out for this exact kind of scam so clearly it's a big issue that should be dealt with. Why a business like this is able to operate and not be shut down entirely is beyond me.
