James, 12:06 PM
Sounds good, Now we are proceeding to the interview section. I will ask you some questions now, once you're done with your answers, please write (DONE) so I can go on with my next question. May we proceed?
Me, 12:06 PM
Yes
James, 12:07 PM
(Q1) Are you currently employed? If yes, tell me about it, and have you ever worked from home or online before. If yes, when and what was the nature of the job?
Me, 12:12 PM
Not currently employed, though I am in a way being a Freelance Graphic Designer, just not currently undertaking anything. I also am a Studio Artist, creating original artworks for sale, along with any marketing and such. Also, promote and sell Digital Materials, via Gumroad and such. Usually, this means working from home quite a bit more, but also have In-house Agency experience as well.
Done.
James, 12:13 PM
(Q2) How do you incorporate feedback into your designs? What’s a time you received hard criticism for your work?
Me, 12:20 PM
It all depends on what type of feedback it is, really. It could be anything from a simple fix or alteration, to moving completely in another direction. I cannot think of a time where I’ve received a “hard criticism” of work, in that it was not typically the work itself, but more in that the direction of the overall concept was reevaluated…not the work I’d done itself.
Mostly, it is asking for slight alterations or making necessary inclusions or redactions to what was originally given. Which is usually typical is the process.
Me, 12:20 PM
Done.
James, 12:21 PM
(Q3) Describe your creative process. What are the major steps?
Me, 12:29 PM
Again, this depends upon the nature of what is desired to be created.
But typically, researching the nature of the project (pertinent information, possible resources, examples etc) would be the starting point.
Then moving into the brainstorming aspect…if creating something entirely original. Or simply creating mock-ups of some type, depending on what is desired. This could be the inclusion of selecting Fonts, Color Schemes, and the the like so that creating any layouts and such are more efficiently handled.
Again, depending on project as to just how much is needed to be done.
As it could be a basic 2D format, or even a bit more complex, like a basic or general motion graphic presentation or such other.
Done.
James, 12:30 PM
(Q4) What brands do you most admire and how do they influence your work?
Me, 12:39 PM
I think Apple is a brand I most admire, though there have been others throughout the years, such as Coca~Cola. But Apple is one I’d say is at the forefront, and not just because I use and love their products.
As far as influencing my graphic design work, it is within the simplicity of design that I admire.
I think Jonny Ives work is the truest sense of success for the company, in that not matter how intrinsically complex it can be, the overall design is sleek, easy to understand and use.
Whether it is hardware or software, his thumbprint is simply manifested in much larger scale than simply just design.
Done.
James, 12:40 PM
(Q5) How do you meet tough deadlines? Tell me about a time you completed great work under pressure.
Me, 12:50 PM
You burn the midnight oil if you have to, to coin a phrase.
I know of more than a few times I have spent time doing such.
One was staying later after normal working hours to mount 30 overly sized art prints (60x90) onto foam board for a client of a company, and did so single handedly, putting in the necessary time to meet the deadline.
Others have been completing the necessary graphic “stitching” needed to complete Virtual Panoramic images, for online virtual real estate tours (RENTPATH), whereby one needed to complete a large number of them within a specified period of time.
Basically staying the necessary time, to make sure things are correct the first time…not the second, third or forth, etc…to meet deadlines.
Done.
James, 12:53 PM
(Q6) Tell me about your experience working remotely. What do you feel is important to make sure the work gets done efficiently?
Me, 1:03 PM
Efficient communication primarily, for both parties. Time lapses will always be inevitable and understood but if having to wait hours before receiving any pertinent information, it can drastically harm the flow of the creative process.
Not simply in meeting a goal or deadline, but the creative collaboration in and of itself.
All information may be provided at the start, but often clarifications need to be made…even far afterward into the project. So being able to give and receive information, updates, critiques etc timely is most useful.
It shouldn’t matter if numerous communications are integrated by either party, as it is all within the scope of achieving the goal of success.
Done.
James, 1:05 PM
(Q7) How do you measure the success of your designs?
Me, 1:16 PM
Depends on what I am designing, which is drastically different in doing my own original artworks versus say a client based work. It can also be different in the scope or type of work (2D, 3D, Animation, Motion, Video).
Overall, it would be on how well it incorporates the idea or narrative of what is desired.
Is it visually able to communicate the narrative or not.
If additions of text/dialogue included…do they also convey the message simply and completely, as well as visual do not detract from the design as a whole.
Again, this is highly dependent upon what kind of design, but basically is the design simple, clean, and visually stunning BUT conveying the proper narrative of who and or what you are designing for.
Done.
James, 1:17 PM
(Q8) If hired, when would you be available to start? How will you like to be paid if hired. Weekly or bi-weekly? Check or direct deposit?
Me, 1:23 PM
I am currently available as of now, provided all necessary paperwork can be provided and completed.
Would also expect to communicate properly via phone and email prior.
Payments can be weekly or biweekly, as per the company’s preference.
Being remote Direct Deposit would be preferred.
Done.
James, 1:24 PM
(Q9) What is the name of your Bank you Operate with to see if it tallies with the company's official salary payment account That is needed for documentation and NOTE that the company is not asking for your bank Information but the name of your bank.
Me, 1:24 PM
My Bank Name was given, but no personal account information.
Done.
James, 1:25 PM
Finally, in one paragraph I need you to tell me why you should be hired. Provide 2 professional references.
Me, 1:35 PM
I love Art and Design, but just as equally I love collaboration.
Collaborating with others on projects is something that I thrive upon. Being a part of a collective creative process not only is more enjoyable, but it provides even more to me personally.
It is a way to learn. To understand others and how they create, and how I may incorporate other perspective’s into my own creative works or processes.
References:
Two personal professional contact names and their businesses given, but no contact information given.
Done.
James, 1:35 PM
