I first contacted this person on Facebook Marketplace about an apartment listing. After answering some questions, they insisted that me and my future roommate fill out an application and pay a $65 application fee each before touring the townhome. They said if we did not like the place then the fee would be refundable. After getting them to put it into writing, we filled out the application and paid the fee. Both accounts that my future roommate and I paid the fee to was under a different name (that was also not the same as the name in the Facebook profile where I found the house). Throughout this process I was very responsive, but they were being extremely incessant; texting and calling me multiple times over a short period of time, wondering if i was still interested. This is after I would text back multiple times per day. Then they insisted that we pay the security deposit before touring the home ($1900). After they said this, I told them we were no longer interested in the property and would like our application fee refunded. We gave them many options to send us our refund including Venmo, PayPal, Zelle, Apple Cash, or sending us a cash or check. The only way they said they would send the money back is through a cryptocurrency wallet app called Trust Wallet, which is not intended to be an app to transfer money on, rather it is a crypto/bitcoin trading app that you cannot withdraw money into your bank from. I have not heard from them since. It is also worth noting that after driving to the listed address of the townhome that it looked nothing like what was advertised.
