When signing up, I met the career coach and stated my background and what I want from her service. They promised they can do that and more. I was instructed to sign a no refund contract to get what was initially discussed. Immediately following my payment they told me they couldn't do half the services they just promised and marketed on their website or said that they couldn't provide it in the way that was initially discussed and agreed too. Following that, what was still provided had horrible quality and was not career coaching whatsoever. I was also given such poor advice that it actually cost me a job offer.
When 5 of 6 of us, tried to discuss it with the merchant they refused to acknowledge accountability and claimed that we were completely misunderstanding the service, we were to blame for her shortcomings and that she had done an incredible job for each of us. We still tried to respectfully discuss these things but she began to ignore our concerns and us. After 6 months of not receiving what we were promised and the merchant not being willing to work with us to find a solution, we asked for our money back or at least to quit paying the 12 month monthly payments and amicably part ways. We were then told that we had a signed a contract that offered no refunds and were liable for the cost, regardless of our believed experiences and lack of provided service. In our conversation with the merchant they were also very rude, belittled us and insulted our intelligence. Now the career coach has blocked many of us and has ceased interactions with us completely, even though we still have 5-6 months more of service.
Below are some grievance that we email the Career Coach Merchant during our attempts to talk through our concerns. We received no serious apology either.--
1. Unmet Expectations on Networking and Industry Connections:
During the initial calls, we were informed that key introductions to relevant industry professionals at companies and roles of interest were part of the program. Marketing materials and our introductory discussions with you emphasized direct connections and access to a robust network. However, after enrolling, the experience did not align with what was presented. The promised connection introductions were either not truly there or not relevant to the roles we were seeking, leading to a sense of trust being broken.
2. Job Search Support Fell Short of Promises:
The program advertised direct support for the job search process, but what was provided was minimal feedback on resumes, LinkedIn profiles, and only a brief session on interview practice. While multiple mock interviews were promoted, the program only intended to have a single one available, and those who participated found it fell below expectations for the cost—specifically, some feedback suggested Laura appeared unprepared and unfamiliar with mentees’ background and interviewing role. After completing the course, the mentees were left with the sentiment that we are to apply for positions on company websites and hope for the best.
3. Limited Access to Laura and Slow Communication:
The value of the program hinged on direct access to Laura through email. However, responses often took longer than the expected 2-business-day timeframe, and the guidance provided did not fully meet our needs for an individualized strategy. Many of us felt we were left to figure out our career strategies largely on our own, without sufficient tools to self-assess based on our unique professional backgrounds. In brief, we found ourselves disappointed by the distance between the promised individualized help marketed by the program and the minimum help received.
4. Concerns Regarding Intake Messaging and Program Cost:
We are also concerned about potential predatory tactics for the intake of this program. While it is reasonable to suspect that each of us has a professional drive and emotional experience with the industry – enough to invest in ourselves for your program, we found ourselves pressured to rush into a substantial financial commitment through misleading messages. Among others, two stand out, “we have one seat remaining and expect it to go soon” and “we don’t expect any more programs to be available until next year due to Laura’s pregnancy/birth dates.”
Additionally, because the program options changed substantially after our intake – with the program offering now much more diverse and cheaper options for career coaching with Laura (e.g. 1 hour Weekly sessions + 6-month access to the same program we completed in Crew 8) – we feel aggrieved by the unavailability of these options prior to our intake and in the inability to switch to these options after first payment was made.
5. Demotivating and Disheartening Experience:
Lastly, and the most serious grievance. We each have felt that this program has not helped us progress whatsoever. As a direct result of our experiences in this program, especially with the high cost, many of us have concluded we should give up our dreams of a career in the space industry, that we are to blame for our difficulties, or that there is no place for us within this industry.
--Ultimately after the entire poor experience and failure of the merchant to attempt to find a reasonable resolution, the class all agrees that we were taken advantage of, manipulated, and did not receive the service we paid 6000$ for.
