Several people, to the best of my knowledge, in Madison Wisconsin area, were contacted by phone on August 31, 2022, by a man claiming to be raising funds for a charity group, Law Enforcement Fund. Funds were for police or law enforcement officers injured in duty. Most of us are familiar with phone scams, but this was very professional sounding and it showed up as WI number, not Unknown Caller or Potential Spam. When questioned, the man could not answer simple questions and didn’t know the term “LEO” (law enforcement officer). He hung up shortly afterwards but was pushing for donations initially. He had a southern accent, sounded very authentic and authoritative. The number was VOIP hosted by Twilio and/or Onvoy, so may have been located elsewhere.
