Leaf Filter salesman misrepresented a contract for services as just locking in the price for installing gutters at a future date. The contract actually contained a clause that guarantees they get to keep the 25% downpayment if you don't cancel the contract by mail within three business days.
I didn't want to schedule services immediately because I was having new siding installed first. After my siding had been completed, I attempted to reach Leaf Filter to schedule the performance of their services. Due to their lack of response, I attempted to cancel the contract. The following day I received a call from a representative pointing out the contract provision and making it clear I wouldn't get my money back. There was no indication that they even wanted to provide the service. They were happy enough with the money they had received for nothing.
1. They use high-pressure sales techniques. He acted as if he were offering a great discount for his services, and we needed to put a payment down right away to lock it in.
2. Their sales team misrepresent the provisions in their contracts. They pretend that you aren't committed, you are only guaranteeing their price, and you can always get your money back.
3. The provision is built to make it difficult to cancel as it has to be cancelled within three days, by mail.
4. They make it difficult to get in touch with them for the performance of the contract.
As it happens, the downpayment they take is exactly the percentage they say they get to keep if you try to cancel. I don't think that is a coincidence.
