While online, a popup for a Adobe Flash Update came up. I clicked on it, thinking that I needed to download the newest version. It turned out to be a virus. When I realized this, I knew I needed to contact Apple Support since I have a Mac. When I pulled up a web browser and searched Apple's website, a fake page came up, but I didn't know this at the time. I contacted the Apple Support number listed and got in contact with a man who said his name was Gary. He advised me to download Mac Cleaner to see if there was a virus. After he determined that there was a virus on my computer, he asked for access to my computer. I stupidly allowed this. He had me agree to pay $249.99 for a year's subscription of antivirus protection and monitoring. He had me send him a picture of a check made out to Legacy Inc. He then said their independent contractor would help me get the virus off my computer. He said a representative of Legacy Soft Inc would call me after we hung up. The rep called me and directed me to download a program called Mac Cleaner and Sophos Anti-Virus software. Because I felt off about this whole situation, I later called the real Apple Support number and was told that they would never tell me to download either of those programs or ask for money. They advised me that I had been scammed.
