Total money lost $100
Type of a scam Phishing
In order to receive the replacement phone we needed to pay a security deposit of $100 using an Apple card which we could purchase at any store such as Family Dollar, Casey's General Store or Walmart and that the $100 would be returned to me as soon as the phone was delivered.
He, Chris, even waited on the phone as we went to local Family Dollar store less than one minute away.
When we got there there no Apple card he said that we should buy an Ebay card and not to tell cashier that it was for purchasing a product as it would add additional sales tax. He reassured that the money would be refunded after I received the phone.(Looking back I feel totally stupid!)
He had me scratch off pin number and read it to him. Then he put me on hold until he confirmed with Family Dollar that the card was activated and that the phone would be brought to us by an Apple tech by 6 pm that night or by 8 am the next day.
He then said that he needed to put me through to the Customer Service Manager to complete the replacement order.
The next man, again extremely nice, thanked me for the $100 and proceeded to say that an additional $800 was needed as a deposit for the phone and that I would receive the "deposits back after I received the phone. He wanted another Ebay card for $800 which would release the order and he would then give me an order number which I could track. The phone was going to be sent from California.
Bells and whistles finally went off!
I explained that I was never told about the additional money and I didn't have it. He said, "Somehow you must get it using credit card, borrow it from someone, what ever I had to do to get it because without it I would not be able to get the phone.
So I said to cancel everything and return my $100. He said that I breeched the contract and forfeited the $100 deposit. After some angry words I just hung up.
I called Apple to make them aware of the scam.

they became angry asking for my SSN again which again I said I wouldn't when I probed for more information I was told if I hang up I would need a lawyer. This was very unnerving
