I looked up LG customer support number online to obtain help with my refrigerator, and came across the phone number 800-315-9999 on what appears to be a legitimate LG website. When I called this number, first there was a recording about a free offer for $100 gift card while waiting for a rep to answer my call. A woman with foreign accents (sounded like eastern Indian accents) eventually answered my call and repeated the details of the “offer” and spoke some length about the promotion and asked for my information such as, my name, physical address to mail the gift card, DOB (she said that she needed this to determine if I’m of legal age to be eligible for the offer) and my email address (to provide the tracking number for the mailed gift card) She proceeded to say that I needed to pay a few dollars to cover the mailing of the card. At this point, I hung up on the call, partly because she was not providing the customer service that I needed, and also I smelled the scam. I later tried another LG customer support number 800-243-0000 and actually received the service that I needed by being directed to a video on LG website showing how to resolve my problem. He did not mention anything about the gift card. I’m convinced that the first number that I called is a fraudulent number. I am glad I did not give out my SSN or financial institution information or credit card number.
