I received an email from a friend recommending a "Lighthouse insurance group". It was not, in fact, the real Lighthouse insurance group. Immediately the quote she gave me sounded too good to be true. Without specific health info (SS#, Birthdate, etc) "Shayla" Offered supplemental insurance to cover my deductible. "They" would send me a check every time I went any appointment. From $100 for co-pays to $10,000 for one day stay in hospital. The friend that went as far as to make 2 payments with his bank account was never given proof of insurance. He was able to go for an eye exam (fully paid) and the staff at the optometrist office was able to see "valid" insurance in the system and the $100 credit towards his first pair of eye glasses. However, no proof of insurance was given. Upon insisting he get an insurance identification number at the very least, "Shalya" gave him another phone number to contact headquarters. The name of the insurance group/policy continued to change. The phone number to call headquarters was not valid either. Finally, he contacted "Ambetter" directly and they explained he was once entered into the system. But the application was not completed in full and was canceled. The true representative for Ambetter explained that the company he spoke of wasn't a real insurance agency and he was more than likely scammed. I assisted my friend in filing a claim with the Federal Trade Commission. He is in the process of getting his money returned to him.
