- Ontario, CA, USA

I applied for a position as a remote Administrative Assistant on LinkedIn, posted under the company “Occupational Health Services Genentech, Inc.”. After a few days, “Lisa Pimentel” reached out to me via email ([email protected]) in order to schedule an interview, and even attached “Genentech” brochures about the company’s values, benefits, and job description. An Interview was conducted over “Flock Chat” (a business collaboration software) and at the conclusion of the interview, she asked that I email over to her my proof of identity and proof of address. I sent her a scanned copy of my license, photo of my passport, and proof of residency (auto insurance form). I then received an email two business days later from their “HR” Department ([email protected]) stating that I had received the position. They included a letter of employment, to which they asked that I sign and email back to them, which I did. Then this “HR” email instructed me to follow up with Lisa, back on Flock Chat. I did so, and she asked me some additional questions, labeled as my “Pre-Training Questions.” None of these included personal information, and instead related only to the job description. Then, after about an hour of answering questions, she said I finished my “Pre-Training” and that now my hiring will be transferred to their finance department, where they will approve the funds for my home office equipment. Lisa said I would hear back in 3-5 business days. After this interaction, I grew suspicious of everything that was happening, so I decided to call Genentech directly and verify the job offer. To my dismay, I discovered it was all a scam thus far; Genentech informed me that they have had quite a few cases such as this, but that they cannot do anything to rectify the situation. So, I have not yet heard back from this “Finance Department” that “Lisa” was talking about, but I am sure I will hear back soon, with them asking for some sort of financial information. But in all, it was confirmed by me that all communication and “interview” conducted with me had all been fake. Additionally, whoever is running this scam, is also impersonating various employees at Genentech, since Lisa Pimentel is actually a real, HR employee, and the brochures that were sent to me via email, were “signed” by Cheri Spolin, the actual director of Human Resources at Genentech.
