Back in 2019, I was looking for a company to materialize a logo I had been sketching out in my head for a while. I did what everyone else does and went to google. Logo Design Cafe has taken over the ad section but under multiple names. I looked through the websites to get an idea of what things would cost. While on one of the sites, I was contacted by an agent through the messenger. It was David Brown.
We had a conversation about what I was looking for and the price packaging. I think the one I was looking to get was around $150. I told him that it was out of my budget and only had $100. He immediately accepted it and said we can do that for you not a problem. Red flag number one.
something felt off about how quickly he accepted the amount of payment but I decided to move forward with it. because I had that feeling I only paid them through pay pal or an e-check. something in those lines because I was not giving them a card. Well, at least I listened to that part of my gut.
David Brown started the project as my "agent" and P.O.C. After some time, I got my first round of samples. A majority of the samples (that I had later figured out) looked like they just typed my name in one of those free logo designers or placit apps. The logo that I had asked for was also produced but I wasn't quite happy with it.
Every time we had a conversation about revisions or ideas, they were already trying to sell me something else. I would ask them if we could change a color and they would reply about animating it. Ask about the font and they would tell me how they can set up my website for another $100. They just tried to milk you out of more money. At this point, I was starting to get frustrated and just told him to focus on the one thing I had already paid him for.
I had become tired of their antics and decided to cut my losses. I accepted the logo and moved on. Chalk it up to a business learning experience. I thought I was finally done with this company since our business had commenced. Boy was I wrong.
A few months later I get a phone call saying that Logo design Cafe had bought the other company I had used and saw that I was displeased from a review I had written and wanted to offer a discount. I told them that I had already found someone else to create my logo and their services were no longer needed. That did not stop the calls. At one point I was receiving 3 calls a day asking about a logo. Multiple calls a week. Each from a different number using the phone's area code trick. I told them multiple times to remove me from their list and to stop calling. the calls continued for a few weeks then stopped.
The calls would start again as if I had forgotten or they have cycled through their call list. It has started back up again. This time, their numbers are showing up as potential spam. When I dismiss the call now, they follow up with a text like you are buddy buddies.
The new scam is they will contact you and tell you that someone is trying to register or trademark you logo you had bought from them and you need to pay them $199 for the copyrights. I was going to tell them to f off like normal, but since it is now text, I want to draw out all the information because it is now a written paper trail.
I will be filing a report with the BBB. I highly doubt they can do much about them but at least there will be a record of it. Maybe they can get them shut down from google ads. There are many others that have written their story on yelp and have lost hundreds to thousands.
