Type of a scam Home Improvement
Cori created a fake company and website, Luxenbild.com, to deceive people into thinking they are getting the highest quality AV equipment currently available. $15,000 projector, $4,000 audio system, $2,000 sound bar, and $2,500 screen. Their scam involves claiming they work for a company installing AV equipment for vacation rentals. They say a customer backed out the day of installation and the equipment is non-refundable because the company they work for buys in bulk. They claim they were in town to install home entertainment systems in vacation rentals and they have to leave to fly home and can't bring the leftover equipment with them. They show inflated prices and a fake website for verification, then offer a significant discount, urging quick payment and that they need to get to the airport ASAP.
I obtained Cori's personal info when I insisted on paying by credit card, which he had to process through the Squareup app. He didn't realize when downloading the app and sending me an invoice I would also get access to his personal information. I have found many posts with the same description of this guy, in the same vehicle, doing the same scam but because others paid cash they were not able to get his real name or any information to report to the police or the press. He does the scam for a period of months to one year in a particular state, then relocates to another state to continue the scam. I was able to verify he had lived and scammed in California, Texas, Colorado and currently Montana. He currently lives in Belgrade, Montana and travels around the state running the scam in gas station parking lots and other business parking lots. I got lucky because I could only pay with a credit card so he had to download an app to send me an invoice, and little did he know, his information would be on the emailed invoice. I was able to determine his real name, contact information, LLC and business registration.
I was then able to find his real phone number using public business records. Eventually he called me back and had zero remorse, couldn't care less about lying, and told me if I'm not satisfied with the quality of the products to contact the manufacturer, Luxenbild. Unfortunately, Luxenbild.com is a fake website he created and the “warranty” he signed me up for before purchasing was just another scam and part of his fake website. So the equipment is trash and does not work, he says to file a warranty claim with the manufacturer, but that link just sends you to his fake website and no one replies.
I have confirmed with several others locally who either fell for the scam, or Cori pitched them the scam and they detected something was off and refused the offer. Most importantly I want people to be aware that this is happening in their community and hope they don’t get scammed out of $2,000 like I did. When I opened the packages I immediately realized it was a scam and the products were worthless. I reached out to Cori via telephone and asked for a refund and told him I tried to make a warranty claim but knew that was fake and part of his scam. He said there was no chance I would be getting my money back, and that I was a gullible [censored] for falling for it. He also said “ill see you in belgrade” in a threatening demeanor and that “I owe him a beer for giving me such a great deal”.
