I was looking for an online job to make extra money because I don't currently make enough to cover my bills. A girl [I believe] named Minnie, contacted me on WhatsApp with an opportunity through Travelocity [now I'm not sure if it is indeed Travelocity]. She walked me through the job and it seemed easy enough; hotel optimization. I looked online to see if there were any reviews about luxurytravelocity but didn't find anything until after-the-fact there was a blip on Reddit. The thing that struck me as odd is you need to front some money. She [Minnie] said we need funds in our account to match with the hotel booking orders. Also, because it is an international company with users all over the world, our wages and commissions are done through digital wallets. I had to create a digital wallet, add money to it, convert it to ETH or USDC, then sent the coins to "my" Travelocity wallet. The basis of the job is: The users get 1-3 sets of 30-60 tasks depending on your level. Once each task set is completed, you must withdraw all the money you put in plus commissions and any bonuses. The minimum you can start with in your account is $101, but you don't receive a deposit bonus until you deposit $500. I figured I would just stay around $500. The caveat is if you are "lucky" enough to run into a negative # it means you've got a combo task. I'm told the combo tasks are rare and randomly distributed by the computer program. You would not receive more than 3 combos in one task group. You are "lucky" because you get more than double the commission [I was learning all of this on the fly]. The problem with the combo is, if you are a newbie [like me] you don't have enough money in your wallet to cover the negative, so you need to deposit more money, buy more crypto [ETH or USDC], then transfer it to your work wallet. You must finish all the tasks in a set before you may withdraw your money. Minnie said she was earning $4-6K per month, so I figured I would see how it goes. All started out fine; I put in $500, did my tasks, and withdrew my earnings to my crypto wallet. With the back and forth crypto conversion, I wasn't exactly sure how everything was calculated since it seemed like I was always adding funds. Two out of my first 3 days I ran into combos, which meant I had to add more money to cover the negatives. So, I did and withdrew my earnings, as I did each of the previous days. It was all happening so fast I didn't stop to think about it. Then on my fourth day it was their Anniversary Event. Users are not forced to participate, but if you did you would get 5x the deposit bonus for the minimum deposit of $5,000. The idea of making extra money in a short period was very tempting; I figured I'd do the event then drop back down to a lesser amount. So, I juggled some funds around and sent a wire transfer to get the $5K to my wallet. I got the deposit bonus then started the tasks. I ran into a combo right away! I don't know how the negatives are calculated, or even why it goes into negative, but then I had to cover over $7.4K. I did some more juggling of funds and sent another wire transfer to cover that. I did not realise that because it was a combo that both tasks could be negative, so now I had to cover $14.8K. I continued and hit another combo. This negative was $48.7K. Prior to this point Minnie had me join a chat group. These people all seemed normal and chatted every day. I even asked them if they are positive the job is legit. Several chimed in that it may be stressful but the payoff is worth it. One guy said he mortgaged his house to get the money to cover one of his negatives. OMG! At this point I started to get anxiety, but kept going so I could withdraw my money. Since I had already wiped out my bank accounts, I took a $40K loan that I thought I'd be able to turn right around and pay it back. I resumed my tasks... on the 49th of 50 I ran into another combo! They want me to come up with $163K to complete the task so I can withdraw all my money. There is no possible way I can come up with that money and I will not mortgage my house to do so. I have asked many times for my money back or for them to front me the money, but no luck. They have been messaging me several times per week telling me the merchant is upset and I need to complete my tasks. I just want back my $85K, that I had already put in. I do not make enough money to pay my mortgage and that loan and the rest of my bills. I've asked and begged C/S but they just say when I finish the tasks I can withdraw it. They've offered a bit of help; the merchant agreed to front 50% and the company 20% which I'd have to pay back first. That is still almost $50K that I would need to come up with. They claim they work with some companies that would give me a loan. If those companies are legit, I would not qualify for another loan. I feel sick over all this. I just want my money back so I can pay back the loan I had already taken and be able to pay my mortgage.
I went online to do a more thorough search; this time for "hotel optimization scams" and did find some articles that sounded very similar to my situation, but not nearly this dollar amount.
I have the wallet addresses of where the money was sent. And I have all the back and forth messages. Because of that chat group & messaging with Minnie, I'm torn [heart v head] between are they or aren't they legit? No matter, I desperately need my money back with or without my commissions and bonus earnings.
June 2024 update
They are still contacting me to finish my task. Now they are willing to front 90%. That would still leave me to cover $16.8K which I don't have and wouldn't give them anyway. This person acts like he cares and wants to help, but they still won't give me back my money. They are telling me that they will take my current funds and distribute it among the merchants for the costs they've had to bear. I keep telling them I'm trying to come up with the money. By doing so I'm hoping to keep them conversing so they can possibly be traced.
