Type of a scam Phishing

I sadly fell for what I believe was a scam. I received an email with a Pay Pal heading. It did not contain my first or last name (I have no Pay Pal account). It said $194.99 had been transferred from my account to pay for an iPhone 7 for a girl who lived in Australia who I certainly did not know, purchased on Ebay. In bold letters it said, "If this wasnt you .Please call us immediately at 1-844-475-4137 to block this transaction and report this incident." (Note the first part of the sentence's grammar mistake. (Their website is full of mistakes also.) I called the number and talked to a lady with a heavy Indian accent who said her name was Eva Scott. She said she worked for Pay Pal, said her code was PP202490. I could not get through to PP Customer Service nor had any way to login since I have no account. Anyway, long story short, she coerced me to allow her into my computer (dumb me) to make it right and showed me how my computer had been hacked, security system breached which chances are she had done. Her technician, Nathan, then went into my computer to "fix" the problems, and they charged me $851.00. They didn't want my credit cards which by then they probably had but wanted me to write a check and go immediately to the post office and mail it, They asked for my routing number but I refused to give it to them. They were so slick and caught me off guard. I have not and will not send them any money. My question is: Was this a scam and what do I do?

I have reported it to the police but they said there was little they could do and said their address was probably fake too and anything would be forwarded to another country.
